A Talented Plein Air Painter Who Found Her Creative Spark at Idea Fab Lab
Beginning At Idea Fab Lab
Taylor Seamount’s journey exemplifies the transformative impact of Idea Fab Labs. A Plein air painter, Taylor initially became a makerspace member intending to craft personalized frames for her artwork. After completing the Laser Cutting Safety and Basic Use Course, she began producing custom frames from laser-cut plywood. But her creative ambitions didn’t stop there. Taylor, in need of a lightweight and portable easel for outdoor painting, was inspired by James Gurney’s easel design. Using IFL’s laser cutter, she reimagined the design, crafting an even lighter, more portable version from bamboo. The result was an innovative product that quickly gained popularity on Etsy, where Taylor has sold over 900 easels.
The Impact of a Makerspace
Despite her business success, Taylor continues to create at Idea Fab Lab, drawn to its inspiring atmosphere and creative community. While she has hired help for wood preparation and marketing, she remains hands-on with the laser cutting process, which she enjoys in the collaborative space of Idea Fab Labs. For Taylor, the makerspace isn’t just about growing her business—it’s about being part of a space that nurtures her passion and fuels her creativity.
