Intro to Parametric 3D Modeling in Fusion 360
January 26, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
$60Tired of using Thingiverse? Introduction to Parametric 3D Modelling is a single class that will allow you to begin bringing the ideas in your head to life. This class will teach you to design your own 3D models in Fusion 360 by first creating a 2D “sketch” of your idea. You will then learn to bring that 2D sketch into the 3rd dimension by the method that best suits your design.
Lastly, you will learn how to export your model in an appropriate file for either 3D printing or cutting on the Shopbot CNC router. Also covered will be some basic design practices that help you make consistent models.
This class is intended for those who do not have any prior experience with 3D Parametric/CAD Modelling software or would like a full refresh.
Topics Covered:
- The Fusion 360 User Environment
- General theory and workflow of modelling and sketching
- The view cube, x,y,z axes and xy, xz, and yz planes and how these create the 3D space you will model in
- Design History Tree
- Creating additional reference planes and axes
- Sketching: Lines, arcs, rectangles, circles, points, dimension-ing (fully defined vs under-defined), and patterns. Also how to use construction geometry for reference
- Constraints: Horizontal/vertical, coincident, midpoint, tangent, parallel, perpendicular, merge
- Extruding to make 3D Operations: Extrude, Cut, Revolve, Loft, Sweep
- Feature patterns
- Fillets and chamfers and a bit of theory about why to use fillets
What to Bring:
A laptop computer and a mouse.
Materials Required:
None.
Prerequisites:
16 years of age and over.
Instructor Bio:
Connor learned 3D modelling while studying mechanical engineering and uses it on a daily basis in his job. His favorite operation is a loft because it’s like a box of chocolates: it’s a really nice feeling when it works like you want it to, but you never quite know what you’re gonna get. His favorite way to use 3D modelling is to design guitars and bicycle frames.
