Laser Engrave a Skateboard Deck!

Skateboard deck and grip tape included in class price.
Join master woodworker Matt Berger in designing your own skateboard deck using a laser engraver in this fun and creative workshop! Create a beautiful wall art piece or a customized functional skate deck! Option to laser engrave grip tape, at no additional cost! Each student will learn how to take a design concept and engrave it onto a skate deck using a laser cutter.
Bring your own design, either a drawn image or a ready-to-go graphic design. Bring in a USB with your file or email your file to your teacher Matt Berger at mattberger10@gmail.com
Finish the class with sealant and optional hardware attachment. Skate deck blank and grip tape are included in class ticket purchase. Option to bring your own hardware (trucks/wheels/bearings). We will offer 30 minutes at the end of class to attach everything if you’d like.
No prerequisite knowledge is needed to attend. Come customize your ride!
We are offering the choice to request a specific shaped board. Popsicle shape, old school/cruiser shape, longboard shape. Please email us at santacruz@ideafablabs.com to put in your request! If you do not request something specific, we will default your choice to a popsicle shaped board.

Matt Berger Instructor Bio:
I’m a longtime woodworking and maker and have been a member of Idea Fab Lab for more than a year where I build woodworking projects, bend wood into sculpture and functional objects (including skateboards), and use the laser cutter to create art and crafts. I’ve taught woodworking for a decade and published two how-to books on the subject: “The Handmade Skateboard” (Spring House Press 2014) and “The Handmade Teardrop Trailer (Cedar Lane Press 2020), with more than 18,000 copies sold.
