Making a Custom Brass Box Latch

$15 – $30Learn to design and create your own custom brass box latch… transforming a piece of brass sheet metal and wire into a beautiful locking closure for any wooden box.
Class Description
Increase the artistic quality of your handcrafted boxes with a custom made metal latch. Learn the basic design of a hinged brass closure with a loop for locking. This will be a no soldering project… using cold connections, such as rivets, for the construction. You will have a completed project by the end of class. No experience necessary. All supplies and tools will be provided. Come and have fun with us!

*metal prep and polishing
*annealing
*hand sawing
*cold connections/rivets
*hammer/texturing
*design and construction of a hinged latch
You’ll leave with a completed project- your own brass box latch.
What to Bring:
Please bring a notebook and an apron, or wear old clothing, and closed toe shoes.

Materials Required:
Brass sheet metal, brass wire, sandpaper, saw blades, and access to use of all tools in the jewelry zone. The $15 material fee is due (cash or card) at class to me directly. There will also be jeweler’s saw frames available for purchase for an additional $15.
Prerequisites:
16 years of age and over please.
